Tabi shoes with kimono

Today's customer is Misao. She picked up the SO-SU-U pattern tabi shoes. They look so cute with her light green kimono and polka dot obi belt!!
She designs and sells original kimono obi belts using a unique denim-like fabric.
I am hoping to see more people wearing casual and unique kimonos like this in California!

Black sashiko

Today's customer is Mark, who picked up the black sashiko tabi shoes.
I like the way he folded down the inside liner and show some red, which is nice accent to the all black assemble!

Bonjour from France!

Today's customer is Amelie who lives in Reims, France. Her husband Elie ordered a pair of the purple tabi boots for her birthday, and they traveled all the way from San Francisco to France... and now here they are!
She looks very elegant with the boots and the Jumper pants. She wears the jacket she got from SOU・SOU in Kyoto when she traveled to Japan.

Today's customer is Little Orphan Dandy, who's the member of the dance troop in Mission. He picked up a pair of black tabi boots and white tabi boots for his dance performance. Look at his jump!! I'm sure these flexible tabi boots will be the great dance shoes!

White boots and Blue Flower & Polka Dots

Today's customers are Sonny and Kat.Sonny picked up the white tabi short boots and Kat
picked up the round toe tabi shoes with the baby blue flower and polka dots pattern.
Take a look at how Sonny wore the boots! He tucked in the pants and left velcro tape open. I loved it!

SOU・SOU Fashion Event

On the day of the Cherry Blossom Festival SOU・SOU held a fashion show event along with Baby, The Stars Shine Bright and Black Peace Now.
Our regular customer, Brittnee and her 2 year old son Bryce modeled our newly received
clothing line. Look how elegant Brittnee looks wearing the new SOU・SOU kimono sleeve dress and matching pattern tabi shoes!
桜祭りの開催日、SOU・SOUはBaby, the stars shine brightと、Black Peace Nowと一緒にファッションショーイベントを行いました。SOU・SOUの常連客、ブリットニーさんと２歳の息子さん、ブライス君がモデルを務めてくれました。ブリットニーさんは新着商品の小袖ワンピースとお揃い柄の地下足袋を着用。とてもよくお似合いです！



By 1:30 the gallery was already packed.
ショーが始まる１時半頃には既にギャラリーは満員状態に。




Bryce seemed little bit nervous. This was his first time joining a fashion show!
ブライス君は初めてのファッションショーイベントに少し緊張気味。





We did the little bit of trivia quiz about the history of tabi shoes. It was so much fun and we were surprised some of the audience's knowledge about the tabi shoes.
But Bryce was the one who stole the show, waving hands to everyone and entertaining the audience!
ショーでは地下足袋についてのトリビアクイズを行いました。観客の中には地下足袋のことをよくご存知の方もいて驚きました。でも今回の主役はなんといってもブライス君。観客に手を振ってみんなを楽しませてくれました。





He is so happy when he's cuddling his mom. Look at his smile!

Shirt with Ise Cotton sleeve

SOU・SOU just received clothing! Today's customer Eden picked up the dark green shirt with Ise cotton sleeves. The shirt is made from recycled cotton sheets and is very soft and great for any season. It's thin enough to layer or you can just wear by itself.
The pattern on the sleeves can match the pattern of your tabi shoes too!

We just received a new shipment from Japan! There are many new products, and one of my favorites is the baby clothing line!
Here, Shinichi, 5 months old, models the KINTARO (traditional japanese baby bib & pants set).
All SOU・SOU baby clothes are made of Ise cotton, which gets softer as you wash it and is also quick to dry.
Great gift for new born & toddler (0~2years old)!

Madame Sadayakko

I recently finished reading Lesley Downer's Madame Sadayakko: The Geisha Who Bewitched the West. The book tells the true story of a geisha named Yakko (1871-1946) who gave up her promising career to become an actress and brought the craze for all things Japanese to the West.
最近Lesley Downer著”マダム・サダヤッコ：西洋を魅了した芸者”を読み終わりました。
この本は実在した芸者サダヤッコ（1871~1946)が女優になる夢を捨て芸者になり、西洋に日本ブームを起こした実話が書かれています。

Born into a good family that had fallen upon bad times, Yakko was adopted into a geisha house as a child and quickly rose up to become Japan's most popular geisha by her mid-teens. Yakko married actor Otojiro and ended her career as a geisha. Together with their acting troupe, Yakko and Otojiro began a rocky journey to revolutionize Japanese theater. Plagued by poverty, illness, racism, and classicism, the group traveled America and Europe and broke through to wide acclaim. Yakko became a muse to artists, musicians, and actors and made proper Victorian women ditch their lace gowns for western "kimonos." At home, however, success was far more fleeting.
不況時に没落した良家に生まれたヤッコは芸者置屋に引き取られ、１０代半ばには日本で一番人気の芸者にまで昇りつめました。
ヤッコは俳優の音次郎と結婚し芸者を引退しました。彼らは劇団グループと一緒に、日本の劇を改革するための旅に出ます。貧困や病気、人種差別や階級社会の問題にさらされながら劇団はアメリカ、ヨーロッパを廻り、さらに広い支持を得ることとなります。ヤッコは多くの芸術家や音楽家、俳優たちのミューズとなり、優雅なヴィクトリアン時代の女性たちは彼女の影響でレースのガウンの代わりに西洋風の”キモノ”を着るようになりました。
しかし故郷の日本での成功ははかないものでした。
Though the book often reads like a textbook, this is the only comprehensive biography of Yakko and includes several pages of rare photos. It is an excellent resource.
本は少し教科書ぽいですが、唯一のヤッコの人生の完全な伝記です。入手しがたい写真も数ページあり、ヤッコの人生を知るには素晴らしい資料です。
