Textile Design 1: So-Su-U

We often are asked about the inspirations and thoughts behind our textiles, and now we can tell you straight from the source himself! We are excited to announce a new blog series: the notes behind our textile designs written by SOU・SOU's textile designer, Katsuji Wakisaka. For each design, Wakisaka explains his intentions and inspirations.

The first textile we want to introduce is SO-SU-U (Numbers), since this pattern is used for so many SOU・SOU products (even our store wall has this pattern stenciled on it) and is one of our most popular and recognizable patterns.

Here are the notes from Mr. Wakisaka...

Arabian numbers that are used worldwide are very simple, and transcend nationality, gender and age.

They are very well designed symbols and are even cute as shapes.
The challenge I experienced with this textile was since these are symbols you see everywhere, how I could transform them into an attractive form?

More to come!

New Tops and Wide Pants Arrived!

We received new tops and wide pants this week!
Here, Rieko is wearing our new kimono sleeve shirt in mauve pink and the wide pants in scattered clouds pattern.

The top is made of Egyptian cotton, so not only it is comfortable against your skin, but it has a sheen and looks almost like silk. You can wear it with jeans for a casual look or you can pair with wide pants for dressier look. These tops are available in black and taupe too!

The pants are made of muslin wool, which is derived from merino wool. They are very light-weight so you can wear them in all four seasons.

And I love this long sleeve shirt with big blue dots! It's a great shirt to spice up any old skirt or pants. Rieko is wearing it with our new black wide pants.
These pants are made of bizen weaving cotton, the cotton traditionally used for school uniforms. It comes with an elastic adjustable strap, so it's easy to adjust the size.
These pants are great for casual or dressy occasion, and I'm sure they will be your
wardrobe staple!
