Trip to Napa

My friends and I took a short trip to Napa and Petaluma last weekend. We tried several different winery spots, but the best one by far was Robert Keenan Winery in Spring Mountain District of the Napa Valley.
They accept wine tasting by appointment only, and perhaps due to it's location, there weren't too many tourists, making it was a very relaxing experience for all of us.
先日友人と一緒にナパとペタルマへ旅行してきました。色々とワイナリーを試したのですが、一番よかったのがスプリングマウンテンにあるロバートキーナンワイナリー。ここは予約制のワイナリーで、おそらくロケーションがすこし離れているためあまり混雑することなく
とてもリラックスできるワイナリーでした。




Since it is located about 1700ft high from the Napa valley floor, we had to drive on a rocky road for a while, but it was definitely worth the trip!
ナパバリーから1700フィートも上にあるため、しばらく山道をドライブしたのですが、わざわざ行ったかいがありました！

We tasted various different white and red wine, and all were sooo good! I bought a really good red wine (I don't know when I'm gonna open it, maybe on my birthday?), but I still wish I can get a magnum bottle someday.
色々と白ワイン赤ワインを試飲しました。どれもおいしかったです。特別な日のために赤ワインを購入しました。



Next day, went shopign to St. Helena Olive Oil.Co. Not only do they sell a variety of high quality olive oil, they also have olive oil-based soaps and skin care items, making it a great place to pick up small souvenirs.
次の日はセントヘレナオリーブオイルカンパニーに。色んな種類のオリーブオイルが販売されているだけでなく、オリーブオイルを使った石けんやスキンケア商品も販売されています。



We also enjoyed our picnic in the Calistoga area. The wine and food under the bright blue sky was a really fun experience and thanks to the weather everything tasted even better!
I hope to go back there to enjoy sunny weather and delicious food soon!

Art, love and Japan This Wed!

This Wednedsay, May 25, a fun fundraising art show will be at Sugar Cafe in downtown San francisco!
There will be live art auctions, live painting shows by local artists, food and special cocktails, and even a Flamenco dance performance, only for this event!
SOU・SOU also donated a couple of products for this event and they will be auctioned for a really good deal!

100% of the proceeds from auction sales and and a portion of the art sales (varying with the artist) will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

５月２５日の水曜日、サンフランシスコ、ダウンタウンのSugar Cafeにて、ファンドレイジングイベントArt, Love, and Japanが開催されます。
アートオークション、ライブペインティングショーからフラメンコダンスのショーまであり、当日限定のメニューやカクテルもあるそうです。
SOU・SOUもささやかながらいくつかアイテムを寄付させていただきました。商品はサイレントオークションの対象となります。
オークションの売上げは１００％、またアート作品の売上げの一部は日本赤十字に寄付されます。

ABC Pre school Charity Concert

Last weekend, my friends who's the teacher at ABC pre-school invited me for the charity concert they organized.
to raise fund for the earthquake victims.
The concert started with Forest Choir Play.
先週末、幼稚園で先生をしている友人に誘われて、東日本大震災の被災者へ寄付するためのチャリティーコンサートに行ってきました。
まずはコーラス隊のフォレストコーラスの演奏からスタートしました。



Great taiko performance by Pre school teachers. It was very powerful performance and full of energy! Couldn't believe they are not professional taiko player.
次は先生方による和太鼓の演奏。とても力強いパフォーマンスでした！プロ並みの技です。



In the last, pre-school kids sung well known japanese songs. They had less than a week to practice for this event, but they must have practiced a lot, their performance was great.
As everyone else, I am one of those who was devastated by this sad news, but I was also touched by the fact so many people around me is doing their best they can to help people cross the sea, even little kids..Great job, everyone!

最後に幼稚園の園児たちがよく知られている日本語のポップソングをみんなで歌ってくれました。
練習するのに１週間もなかったと思うのですが、みんな一生懸命練習したのか。とても上手でした。
暗いニュースに気分が落ち込みがちになりますが、周囲の人が皆自分たちにできることを精一杯やって、こんな小さい子供たちまで海の向こうにいる被災者を助けようとしていることに感動しました。

Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day dinner, my love and I headed to Zazie, a small french bistro restaurant located in San Francisco's Cole Valley district.
今年のバレンタインデーは彼女とコール・バリー地区にあるフランス料理店のZAZIEに行ってきました。



For dinner, we had an entree of lobster Ravioli surrounded by Tiger Prawns, with wilted arugula and white wine, topped with a finish of shaved manchego cheese, and another entree of grilled mascarpone polenta hearts with wild mushrooms, wilted spinach, gorgonzola, and spicy thomato-chevre sauce. Delish!
クルマ海老とアギュレラに包まれたロブスター入りのラビオリ、マンチェゴチーズがかかっています。
もう一品はマッシュルーム、ほうれん草とゴルゴンゾーラチーズ、そしてトマトとヤギのチーズのソースがかかった
ポレンタのグリル焼き。おいしいかったです！


We finished off the evening with a dessert called "Opposites Attract", consisting of one petit pot de creme au chocolat topped with strawberries and one petit creme brulee with a hard toffee shell on top, with two hard toffee heart outlines. Look at the pictures and enjoy the visual feast.

そして最後は”Opposites Attract"（正反対同士は惹きあう）という名前のデザートを。苺が着いた小さいクレームデゥショコラと、コーヒー味のシェルがついた小さいクリームビリュレのセットにハート型のトフィーがのっています。目のごちそうです。

Trouble Coffee

There are so many coffee roasters opening up in San Francisco lately, it's hard to pick just one favorite spot. But I think I found the ultimate place (finally)!
It's called Trouble Coffee and is located in the Sunset district by the beach.
最近、サンフランシスコで自家焙煎のコーヒーを出すカフェが続々とできている中、どれか一つを選ぶのはなかなか難しいのですが、やっとサンフランシスコで一番おいしいと思えるコーヒーに出会いました。
サンセット地区にあるトラブル・コーヒーです！



Mmmm... Their Latte is always so good!! It's very strong without being too bitter; it reminds me of the coffee I had at Kyoto. I didn't have a chance to take a pic, but if you go, you have to try their famous cinnamon toast! Yummy! It's worth the trip all the way from the Mission district!
ここのおすすめはラテ。強いのに苦みがなく、少し京都のコーヒーを思い出させてくれます。
写真を撮リ忘れてしまいましたが、ここに着たらトラブルコーヒー名物のシナモントーストを試すのもお忘れなく！
ミッションからわざわざ電車に乗って来るだけの価値はあります！

Morning Sky

I wake up at 6am every morning. It is still dark out, but when it's almost 7am I can see the beautiful sunrise glow from my place. It was especially beautiful this morning so I took these pictures.

The sky was prettier to see in person, these photos don't quite do it justice. This is the view from my kitchen window every morning. I can't help but just stare out as the colors change by the minutes.


私は毎朝６時起床なのですが、目覚めた時は真っ暗でも、朝７時近くなると日の出を目前にとても美しい朝焼けを観ることができます。
今朝の朝焼けがあまりにも美しかったので写真を撮ってみました。
実際は、写真では表現しきれない壮大さを感じる色合いでした（カメラと私の腕の問題？）。
我が家のキッチンの窓から観える、朝焼けの空です。毎日、刻一刻と表情を変える空を観るのが大好きです。

Netsuke Collection

Last weekend I went to the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. In addition to the special exhibition, they have amazing permanent collection from all over the world. My favorite section is the collection of Japanese netsuke, which is centuries old Japanese miniature sculptures, originally used as fastener for the cord attatched to small containers to carry tobacco or medicines.
先週末はサンフランシスコのアジアンアート美術館に行ってきました。特別展示に加え、ここには色んなアジア諸国から集まったコレクションの常設展があります。個人的に好きなのは２階にある日本からの根付コレクションです。
根付とは江戸時代に発明された留め具で、タバコや薬を入れる箱や印籠などを帯から吊るすときに使われていたと言われています。



Most netuske are less than 2 inches, smaller than my thumb!
ほとんどの根付は3~4センチという小ささ。親指の先ぐらいの大きさです。


Various motifs are used for Netsuke's. Like this one, a kid dancing with a dog...
色んなものが根付のモティーフになっています。上の写真は犬と踊るこども。

Old man who's clipping his nails! Very expressive! All of them are so well made to the fine details I never get tired of looking through the collection.
If you get a chance to visit the Asian Art Museum, don't miss this collection located on the 2nd floor! I'm sure you'll be amazed by the fine craftmanship
爪を切っているおじいさん。表情の表現がすばらしいです！どの根付も本当に細かい細部まできれいに作られているので飽きることなくじーっと見てしまいます。アジアン美術館に行く機会があればぜひこのコレクションは見てみてください。
昔の職人さんの職人技に驚かされるはず。

Short summer in San Francisco

My 3 years old Radish Flower Tabi!


We had very short indian summer in San Francisco for last couple weeks.
On the hot sunny day(which is very unusual in SF)I like to relax at Dolores Park.
先週の２週間、サンフランシスコにもやっと短い夏がやってきました。こういう暑い日（サンフランシスコではめったにないことです）は近所のドロレスパークでのんびりするに限ります。



On sunny day, the Dolores Park gets filled with people who come for picnic or sunbathing. You can also see the great view
of the city from this park too.
天気がいい日はドロレスパークはピクニックや日焼けをする人でいっぱいになります。
サンフランシスコの眺めが見渡せる場所でもあります。


Some people started dancing with DJ's music..
DJが入って、それにあわせて踊る人もいたり。。



Other people enjoyed the flahoop.
フラフープをしている人も。


We ended up staying there till sunset. Everytime I come here, I feel very lucky that I live only few blocks away from this wonderful park!
結局日が沈むまでのんびりしてしまいました。ここに来る度に、こんな公園が近所にあって本当にラッキーだなと思います！

Dim sum!

San Francisco is well know for having good dim-sum places, but since there are so many options, sometimes it's hard to know which one to go to. But I think I finally found the ultimate dim sum place! My friend took me to Golden Gate Dim Sum restaurant in the Richmond district...
サンフランシスコはおいしい飲茶で知られています。でも選択が多すぎてどこに行ったらいいか分からないという人は多いのではないでしょうか。でも最近安くておいしい究極の飲茶を発見しました！リッチモンド地区にあるGolden
gate Dim Sum Restaurantです。



First we started with the shrimp stuffed bell pepper. Unlike the other typical dim-sum restaurants, you don't see the circulating cart here. They cook after taking orders,so all dishes are still hot and fresh!
まずはピーマンの海老詰めから。典型的な飲茶レストランではすでに料理された小皿がカートで回ってくるのですが、ここではオーダーを取った後に料理されるので、すべて熱々でフレッシュです。

And seafood potstickers! Yum Yum!
海鮮ぎょうざ！これもおいしかったです。



And of course, all dim sum experiences must end with mango pudding!
All of this food only cost us $15 a person!
If you are looking for good dim sum at a reasonable price, this place is must!
そして飲茶といえば最後のしめはマンゴープディング！これだけ食べてなんと一人１５ドルという安さでした。
安くておいしい飲茶をお探しの方、ここはおすすめです！

Mission Pie

I wasn't huge fan of pies in general, till i found this place...Mission Pie!　I am so addicted to　their delicious pies and now I have to go there every weekend!
もともとパイはそれほど好きな訳ではなかったのですが、最近MISSION PIEのパイに出会ってからは、パイ中毒で毎週末食べに行ってしまいます。


They serve more than 10 different kinds pies every day, from the desert pies to the savory kind pies.
MISSION PIEでは毎日１０種類以上のパイが用意されています。デザートパイからおかず系のパイまで。




They also serve the scones and muffins fresh out of oven.Today's special was tomato galette.
焼きたてのスコーンとマフィンもあります。今日のスペシャルメニューはトマト味のガレットでした。


It is hard to just pick one, but I always ends up getting the mixed berry pie with
whip cream. They are not too sweet nor too sour, just perfect!
If you have a chance to stop by Mission area, don't forget to stop by there!
１種類を選ぶのはむずかしい。。のですが、いつも必ずミックスベリーパイにホイップクリームを添えたものを頼んでしまいます。甘すぎず、酸っぱすぎず。完璧なパイです。

DJ Bryna

Last Friday, I got to DJ at the Casanova Lounge in the Mission District. My fiance Joe and I started collecting records a few months ago, so DJing became a way to play all of the records we find.
先週の金曜日、ミッション地区のバーCasanova LoungeでDJをやりました！婚約者のジョーと私は数ヶ月前からレコードを集め始めたので、そのレコードコレクションを活用するいいチャンスです。


It got pretty crowded! People kept asking me and Joe to get them drinks. Sorry, not our job! I did have someone complement my Le Coq Sportif x SOU SOU shirt!
たくさんの人達が来てくれました！ジョーはバーテンダーに間違われて色んな人からドリンクを頼まれていました。
私たちはバーテンダーではないのですが。。この日着ていたLe Coq SportifとSOU・SOUのボーダーTシャツをお客さんにほめられました！



Not sure which record I was holding here. We played some 70's rock and then 80's hits. Earlier that day, I found a T.Rex EP at Amoeba with one of my all-time favorite songs, "Metal Guru". That's why DJing is so fun; you get to find great music and play it for everyone to hear.
この写真でどのレコードを持っていたか覚えていないのですが、７０”sのロックと８０”ヒットをかけました。
この日、アメーバレコードで私がずっと大好きな歌"Metal Guru"が入ったT REXのEPを見つけました。
好きな音楽を見つけたら他の人たちと共有できるのがDJをやっていて楽しいところだと思います。
