Today's customer is a guest from Kyoto, Mr.Shoichi Haruyama.
He visited NEW PEOPLE to promote the new Japanese movie,"Metal Samurai" at the J-pop summit last month.
He has been huge fan of SOU・SOU for years, so he stopped by the store to say hi

Cherry Blossom & Pine pattern

Today's customer is Benjamin, who picked up the sashiko tabi shoes with Cherry blossom and Pine pattern. It is made of Sashiko, which is also used for Judo robes for it's durability. Benjamin lived in Japan for a while, and It was really fun to hear about his experience in Japan and how he enjoyed Takarazuka-theatre(japanese musical theatre troupe)in Kobe. Next time I'll go back to Japan, I will try to see their musical!
本日のお客様、ベンジャミン様は文様あそび柄とさしこの棟梁地下足袋をお買い上げになりました。
さしこは柔道着にも使われていて、非常に丈夫な素材です。
ベンジャミン様は数年お仕事で日本に住まわれていたということで、日本での生活や、宝塚歌劇（大ファンでDVDも持っていらっしゃるそうです）について色々と楽しいお話をして頂きました。次回日本に帰国した時には私も宝塚歌劇を見てみようかと思います。

Netsuke Collection

Last weekend I went to the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco. In addition to the special exhibition, they have amazing permanent collection from all over the world. My favorite section is the collection of Japanese netsuke, which is centuries old Japanese miniature sculptures, originally used as fastener for the cord attatched to small containers to carry tobacco or medicines.
先週末はサンフランシスコのアジアンアート美術館に行ってきました。特別展示に加え、ここには色んなアジア諸国から集まったコレクションの常設展があります。個人的に好きなのは２階にある日本からの根付コレクションです。
根付とは江戸時代に発明された留め具で、タバコや薬を入れる箱や印籠などを帯から吊るすときに使われていたと言われています。



Most netuske are less than 2 inches, smaller than my thumb!
ほとんどの根付は3~4センチという小ささ。親指の先ぐらいの大きさです。


Various motifs are used for Netsuke's. Like this one, a kid dancing with a dog...
色んなものが根付のモティーフになっています。上の写真は犬と踊るこども。

Old man who's clipping his nails! Very expressive! All of them are so well made to the fine details I never get tired of looking through the collection.

爪を切っているおじいさん。表情の表現がすばらしいです！どの根付も本当に細かい細部まできれいに作られているので飽きることなくじーっと見てしまいます。アジアン美術館に行く機会があればぜひこのコレクションは見てみてください。
昔の職人さんの職人技に驚かされるはず。

Denim Pants with Bar Pattern

Annisa from Taiwan came in and picked out a pair of our new denim pants with our trademark Bar pattern. This is such a statement pants! It looks very stylish with a plain Tee shirt. The vintage and worn down look is achieved through a stone washing process. Arigatou~ Annisa-san!

White Sashiko Long Boots

Today's customer Bleu bought one of our last remaining pairs of white sashiko long tabi boots. We are totally digging how she folded the boots in half, showing off the lining! They almost look like ankle boots. Very cute!

We are getting more long boots in new designs next month, so stay tuned!

Today's customer is Chelsea. She picked up the pair with arabesque patterns in gold and white. Gold and white may look like it's really difficult to pull off, but actually it is more versatile than one would think! Looks great with black leggings, or wear it with jeans like Chelsea does!
