Curry Udon!!

There are so many good japanese restaurants in San Francisco, but as far as i know, Chaya is the only japanese restaurant where all the menu items are vegan.
I am not a vegetarian, but this is a great place when you are in the mood for healthy food and kansai-style light flavored japanese food.

My favorite is their Curry Udon, udon noodles that come in curry flavored soup with
a lot of veggies. They use the soup made out of vegetables and dried shitake, instead of bonitos and they use the vegan curry powder. Their soup is so good I almost can't believe it's vegan! It's the perfect food for chilly rainy days and it's also very healthy!

サンフランシスコにはおいしい日本食レストランが多くありますが、Chayaは唯一の動物性食品を一切使っていない日本食レストランです。私はベジタリアンではないのですが、ヘルシーな物を食べたいときや関西風の薄味が恋しくなった時にはここに食べにいきます。
ここでおすすめなのは野菜たっぷりのカレーうどん。だしは鰹出汁ではなくて野菜やしいたけの出汁を使っています。出汁がとてもおいしく、ベジタリアンとはとても思えません。寒い雨の日に行きたくなるレストランです。

Square Pattern

Today's customer is Phillip, who appeared on this blog last month.
Since his brother loved the tabi shoes he got last time, he gave it to him and came back to get another pair for himself.(what a good brother!) He got a pair of sashiko with the square pattern.

Samovar Tea Lounge

Whenever I want a good cup of tea (especially good chai) I always go to Samovar Tea Lounge in Castro area where you can try all types of different tea from all over the world (from China to Russia)!
おいしいお茶が飲みたくなったらカストロ地区にあるSamova Tea Loungeに行きます。ここでは中国からロシアまで世界各国のあらゆるお茶が試せます。


Besides the wide variety of international teas, another great thing about this place is you can sit down on Japanese style "Tatami" floor mats with cushions.
お茶の種類の豊富さに加え、ここは日本式に畳に座れるのも気にいってます。


You can also purchase tea leaves in bulk. (They have more than 40 types of tea including 12-year-old Oolong tea!)
お茶の葉も販売しています。（種類は４０種類以上、１２年ものの烏龍茶とかもあります）


I had a cup of very spicy iced chai. This is a perfect place to chill out with a cup of tea and your favorite book!
When you go over there, don't forget to try "Tea soup"!

Sew sew with SOU・SOU

Recently our friend and Black Peace Now manager, Asuka, bought a few of our Chrysanthemum pattern scarves to sew with. All of our scarves and tenugui towels are made of Ise cotton and are actually perfect for small projects like Asuka's.
Her first creation is a room divider curtain, and with the extra fabric she made us a scrunchie! Maybe if we're extra nice, she'll make us a headband too?

Today we had a very special customer! The actor Shin Koyamada, who showed the amazing archery skill in the movie "Last Samurai" alongside Tom Cruise. He choose a pair of black short tabi boots. We are all looking forward to seeing him in action in his upcoming films!

Black Sashiko boots

Today's customer is Mike, who got our black Sashiko long boots for his birthday. The material for these is actual Judo robe fabric, so it's tough and durable. (FYI: the white version of these boots is currently 30% off!) Mike looks ready to kick some rear!

Radio Havana Social Club

Today, I would like to introduce my new favorite bar/cafe Radio Havana Social Club, which is located in my neighborhood; The Mission area.
今回は私の家の近所のミッション地区にあるカフェ兼バー、Radio Havana Social Clubを紹介したいと思います。


The entire bar is decorated with kitchy, weird objects made from junk or used toys. These scary objects made me hesitate to go inside, but finally I went in with my friend to took a peek at what's inside this mysterious bar.
バーの中はガラクタを再利用して作られたキッチュで不思議なオブジェが並んでいます。...若干怖くて入りづらい雰囲気を醸し出しているのですが、店内がどうなってるのか前から気になっていたので思い切って友達と入ってみました。



It's like Salvador Dali opened the cafe himself! So Surreal!
サルバドール・ダリがカフェをオープンしたらこうなるという感じです。シュールです。







Here is the owner, from Cuba. He makes amazing Sangria(best in San francisco!) and he also makes all the crazy sculptures decorating the cafe.
The bar is very small so I wouldn't recommend it to a big group of people, but
it is definitely a fun place to hang out with your good friend or a date!
They also host Rumba night every other Sunday.
キューバ出身のオーナーさん。彼がカフェのサングリア（サンフランシスコで一番おいしいかも！）だけでなく、バーにあるシュールなオブジェも作られているそうです。
店内はとても狭いので大人数では行けないですが、仲の良いお友達と行ったりデートに行くのにおすすめのスポットです。

隔週で日曜日にルンバ・ナイト（キューバのダンス音楽）もあるようです。

White Boots

Today's customer is Tamara, who purchased our white short boots. Though initially she was torn between different colors, Tamara chose white, which will be really versatile and easy to mix-and-match with different outfits. Great for Summer, too!

Hyde Street Pier

With the lovely Spring weather last week, a trip to the Hyde Street Pier sounded perfect.
先週はとても天気がよく、ハイドストリート埠頭へ散歩するのに完璧でした。


Hyde Street Pier is at the very edge of Fisherman's Wharf. It's free to walk about, but you must buy a ticket in order to tour the old ships docked there.
ハイドストリート埠頭はフィッシャーマンズワーフの端にあります。周囲を歩き回るのは無料ですが、波止場に泊まっている船の中に入るツアーは有料になります。


This tugboat was off limits.
この引き船は立ち入り禁止でした。
