Trip to SOU・SOU Kyoto!

I just came back from a two week trip to Japan! I brought back a lot of goodies (including new products for the holiday season). I had a great time visiting the Japanese SOU・SOU stores, and I wanted to share my experience with all of you:
２週間弱、久々に日本に里帰りしてきました！ホリデーシーズンに向けて色々と新商品を持って帰ってきたり、
日本のSOU・SOU京都店を訪ねたりしてとても楽しかったです！今回は京都のSOU・SOU本店をご紹介します。


Here's the SOU・SOU flagship store in Kyoto (around the Kawaramachi-station area). There is a tabi-shoes store on the first floor, Le Coq Sportif bicycle store on the 2nd floor, and Kei-i (men's clothing) in the basement level. The whole building is full of fun SOU・SOU products and you can coordinate a whole outfit!
これが京都の阪急・河原町駅付近のSOU・SOU本店になります。１階が足袋店、２階がサイクリングウェアを取り扱うSOU・SOU Le Coq Sportif、地下に紳士服の傾衣があります。ビル全体にSOU・SOUの楽しい商品がいっぱいあふれていて、上から下まで全身SOU・SOUでコーディネートできてしまいます！

これが紳士服の傾衣の中の様子です。木村英輝によって描かれた壁画がかっこいいです。


Kikoromo, SOU・SOU's women's clothing store is across the street from the main building.
メインのビルの向かいにある和服店舗、着衣。


Shitsurai, SOU・SOU tearoom and furniture/textile show room.
しつらい。SOU・SOUのオーダー家具とテキスタイルのお店です。お茶と和菓子もいただけます。


Here you can enjoy sweets inspired by SOU・SOU textiles (they change the design every month to represent seasonal changes) with a good cup of green tea. They are almost too beautiful to eat (I ate them all anyways, and it was DELICIOUS too)!
ここではSOU・SOUのテキスタイルにインスパイアされた和菓子とお抹茶がいただけます。あまりに綺麗すぎて食べるのがもったいないほど。（と言いつつ全部食べてしまいましたが。。。とてもおいしかったです）


This is Ise Momen, the store dedicated to accessories (scarf, tenugui towel, etc.) made of Ise Cotton.
ここは伊勢木綿。伊勢木綿製の小物（くびまきや手ぬぐいなど）を取り扱うお店です。


This is my favorite one: Warabegi, kids' clothing store. Many of the SOU・SOU adult
shoes and clothing come in mini sizes, so you can match with your kids too!
そして、ここが子供服のわらべぎ。SOU・SOUの大人服のほとんどが子供用のミニサイズでも作られているので、お子様とペアルックも可能なのです！

Today's customer is Wendy, visiting from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Last time she visited our store during the Cherry Blossom Festival she got her first pair of tabi shoes. She works at a bookstore and found these shoes are perfect for standing on hard floors all day, so she came back to get her second pair with SO-SU-U(number pattern) today!

SOU・SOU Staff Bio: Tamami

Hello, my name is Tamami and I am a sales associate at SOU SOU San Francisco.
I came to the U.S in 1991, but am originally from Shizuoka, Japan.

My favorite things are: sumi-e painting (Japanese india-ink drawing), martial arts training, graphic arts, and reading.

I've been practicing sumi-e painting very seriously under my teacher who lives in Japan. Because I love the beauty of sumi-e painting and wish to share it with others, I am training to acquire a license to teach.
In the future, I hope that I will be able to teach and represent a Japanese traditional art in the U.S.

At work, it is a joy to be involved with both a Japanese traditional art and Modern design. SOU SOU's aesthetic refines and harmonizes these concepts beautifully.
I am very glad to meet SOU SOU design.


はじめまして、SOU・SOUサンフランシスコ店の新顔、寺田と申します。
出身地は静岡で、1991年にアメリカに参りました。

趣味は、水墨画を描くこと、武道の鍛錬、芸術鑑賞、読書などです。
水墨画は、その簡素な世界の奥深さと美しさに魅せられ、将来、認可状を取得し、こちらでその素晴らしさを表現し伝えてゆきたいと強く思っており、日本におられる先生から通信教育で学んでおります。毎月の提出課題に悪戦苦闘しながらも楽しみながら精進しております。

以前より、日本の伝統美と美しくモダンなデザインに関わるお仕事をしたいと思い続けておりましたが、それらを上品に融合させたSOU・SOUのデザインに出会うことができ嬉しく思っております。

Halloween Concert!

This last Saturday, my brother and his band The Bloodtypes came to Oakland (from Portland, OR) to play a show. This was the first time I had seen his band play and they didn't disappoint!
先週の土曜日、私の兄のバンド”Bloodtypes"がオークランドでコンサートをしました。（兄もオレゴン州のポートランド出身です）兄が演奏するのを見るのは今回が初めてだったのですが、期待を上回る演奏でした！


The Bloodtypes play punk/rock/garage music, and they don't skimp on the fake blood (perfect for Halloween).
”Bloodtypes"の音楽はパンク／ロック／ガラージ系の音楽です。そして演奏には必ず血のりがでてきます。
（ハロウィーンにぴったり）


There's my bro! He plays guitar. At one point, there was so much fake blood on stage, he slipped and fell backwards, but kept playing! Such a pro.
これがギターを担当している私の兄です！ステージに血のりがいっぱい着いていたので、途中で足を滑らせてしまいましたがそれでもギターを引き続けていました。さすがはプロ。


The venue they played is called the Command Center, and is a live/work space in an old warehouse. I felt kind of sorry for the dog, Orbit! He didn't look too happy, and even tried to get on stage once or twice!
会場は”コマンドセンター”という古い倉庫で、ライブ等に使われているスペースです。
犬は病気だったので首止めをつけさせられてかわいそうでしたが、何度かステージに侵入してきました。


Five or six other bands also played that night, and the place really filled up.
他にも５．６バンドが演奏し、会場はいっぱいになりました。


Everyone was decked out in really cool costumes; this zombie Bob Ross and canvas costume was my favorite!

I left at 12:30am and the party was still going strong, whew! I'm such an old lady!

Maybe next time I'll stay until the end.
ハロウィーンだったので皆コスチュームで決めていました。ゾンビになったボブ・ロスと、絵を描くキャンバスになった人がとてもよかったです。私は１２時３０分に帰りましたが、その後も遅くまでパーティーは続いていたよう。
私も年をとったものです。

Enjoying Halloween with SOU・SOU Shoes!!

Did everybody enjoy Halloween this year?? I was too lazy to come up with a costume idea and didn't dress up! :( But just for fun, I want to share pictures of NEW PEOPLE staff who did dress up and included their SOU SOU shoes in their costumes:

Rodrigo's theme was "Japanese construction worker". He even managed to find
the baggy pants they wear in Japan! The purple tabi boots and hardhat complete the look nicely!

In the second picture, we have Audri dressed up as a kitten. Check out her tail and ears! Sooo cute! She finished off her costume with our popular short tabi boots. . I never would have thought of that, but it's purrrfect!
皆様、今年は楽しいハロウィンを過ごされたでしょうか？私は最後までコスチュームのアイディアが浮かばず結局仮装せずじまいでした。。今回はNEW PEOPLEのスタッフがSOU・SOUの靴を履いて仮装していたのでその写真をお届けしようと思います。

上の写真：ロドリゴの今年の仮装のテーマは”日本の工事現場”。わざわざこのために日本からトビ職の人がはくパンツを取り寄せてもらったそう。紫色の手縫い地下足袋とヘルメットをあわせてよりルアルなルックスになっています。
（この後この格好でパーテイーに行ってました）

下の写真：オードリーのテーマは”子猫ちゃん”。耳とシッポがとても可愛いです！！黒の自力マジック足袋が猫の足ぽくてさらに完璧です！
