Filbert Steps

Looking for parrots, I ventured to the Filbert Steps on Telegraph Hill. No one knows for sure where the parrots came from, but it is believed that they were originally house pets that got loose. (The parrots are also the subject of the documentary film The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill.
オウムを探してテレグラフ・ヒルのフィルバート階段をぶらぶらしてきました。ここに住み着いているオウム達がどこから来たのか誰も知らないのですが、もともとはペットとして飼われていたものが迷子になって住み着いたのだと信じられています。
（このオウムたちはドキュメンタリー映画The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hilの題材にもなっています。）

On this afternoon, a large group of squawking parrots erupted from their perches just before I could grab my camera. Oh well, onward and upward.
ちょうどカメラを構える前にオウムたちが鳴きながら止まり木から飛んでいってしまいました!


The Filbert Steps start from Montgomery Street and snake uphill to Coit Tower. Needless to say, it's great exercise!
フィルバート階段はモンゴメリーストリートから始まって、コイトタワーへとうねうね続く坂道です。言うまでもなく、結構な運動になります！


The stairs are steep, but the views are gorgeous.
とても急な坂ですが、見晴らしがとてもきれいです。


There are lush gardens and trees to admire, also.
緑豊かな庭と木々もあります。


Dotting the path are houses tucked away amongst the greenery.
道に点在しているのは緑の木々に隠れた家。


Whew!

At the halfway point to Coit Tower is this striking art deco house. This was Lauren Bacall's place in the 1947 movie Dark Passage (which also starred Humphrey Bogart).

Maybe I'll attempt the other half of the journey another day.
コイトタワーへ行く途中には素晴らしいアールデコ様式の家があります。これは１９４７年の映画「潜行者」に出てくるローレン・バコールの家です。（この映画にはハンフリー・ボガートも出演しています）
