Presidio

During last week's rainstorm, I went out to the Presidio.
先週の雨の中、プレシディオに行ってきました。

First used as a military base by the Spanish and eventually the U.S., it has been a national park since 1994. Free and open to the public, wandering around the Presidio is a great way to spend an afternoon.
もともとはスペイン、そしてアメリカ軍用の基地として使われていた場所ですが、１９９４年以来国立公園となっています。
一般に公開されているので、プレシディオを散歩するのは午後を過ごすのに最適です。



There are many trails and walking paths to explore. It's hard to believe, but the Presidio was sand dunes until the U.S. military planted all of the greenery!
散歩路がたくさんあります。今では信じがたいことですが、アメリカ軍に緑化されるまではプレしディオは砂漠だったのです！



Old officers' quarters are now private homes.
かつてのオフィサーの部屋は今では住宅ホームになっています。



There are lots of old warehouses and buildings still in use.
今でもたくさんの倉庫や古いビルが使われています。



One of my favorite places to visit is Fort Point, right under the Golden Gate Bridge. You may know this location from Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo. The fort serves as a museum and has been preserved to look much the way it did while still in service (minus the artillery, or course). On nicer days, this is a popular spot for surfers.
私が好きな場所はゴールデンゲート橋のすぐ下にあるフォートポイントです。ヒッチコックの映画「めまい」でこの場所を見たことがあるかもしれません。今では記念館となっており、当時そのままの様子に保たれています。（もちろん大砲はありませんが）
天気がいい日にはサーファーに人気のスポットです。
